Fort Garland Museum & Cultural Center is a History Colorado site and museum in Fort Garland, Colorado. It offers self-guided tours of a nineteenth century military fort, including the parade grounds and five original adobe buildings. Exhibits cover the fort's history, the Buffalo Soldiers of the Ninth Cavalry, Hispano volunteers and Indigenous tribes of the San Luis Valley. The site also holds reconstructed army quarters and a gift shop with local goods and books.

The fort has a lot of history. You can see how the soldiers lived on a daily basis while serving. Anyone interested in military history visiting Fort Garland should stop and take part in this site.

This old fort turned museum was a great place to stretch our legs and learn some interesting things for just over an hour. There are some newer exhibits about Native Americans and the Buffalo Soldiers that used to live at and around the fort. A good and inexpensive stop if you're passing through.

This cultural center has lots of reading material and intriguing stories portrayed through well maintained displays. We learned about how this military fort was strategically placed in the borderlands and was designed to coerce Indian tribes onto reservations. It’s also rich in the history of understanding the lesser known stories of Indigenous Tribes of Colorado, Buffalo Soldier, and Spanish land grant communities. They have extremely informative exhibits; you can tell that the museum does their best to convey these historical perspectives through “as true-to-life as possible” displays.
